  • Classification of Steel Pipe Elbows
Classification of Steel Pipe Elbows Steel pipe elbows can be classified through following various parameters, Direction Angle Length and Radius Connection with Pipe Material of Construction Types of Elbows based on Direction Angle According to fluid flow direction of the pipes, elbows can be divided into different degrees, such as 45 degree, 90 degree, 180 degree, which are most common elbows. Also there are 60 degree and 120 degree elbows for some special pipelines. This degree is just an representation of the angle by which the fluid flow is going to change after flowing through the said elbow. Types of Elbows based on Length and Radius Elbows are split into two groups which define the distance over which the flowing fluid change direction; the center line of one end to the opposite face. This is known as the [Center to Face" distance and is equivalent to the radius through which the elbow is bent. If the radius is the same as pipe diameter (Center-to-Face dimension of 1.0 X diameter ), it called Short Radius Elbow (SR elbow) used normally for low pressure and low speed pipelines or in tight areas where clearance is the main issue. If the radius is larger than pipe diameter (Center-to-Face dimension of 1.5 X diameter) then we call it a Long Radius Elbow (LR Elbow) used for high pressure and high flow rate pipelines. Types of Elbows based on Connection with Pipe As per the connection with pipe, elbows could be classified as Butt Welded Elbow, Socket Welded Elbow and Threaded Elbow. Butt Welded Elbow Butt weld elbow is a steel elbow formed by hot pressing or forging. Its connection form is to directly weld the elbow and steel pipe. Butt welded elbows have beveled ends to allow for ease of welding. This bevel allows for full penetration weld in most of the cases. Butt welded elbows are mainly used for elbow with higher pressure and temperature. Socket Welded Elbow Socket weld elbow is also welded to the pipe and fittings end. Unlike the butt weld elbow, the socket weld elbow has a trapezoidal area at the end. We can insert pipe end into this area (the diameter of SW elbow is matched with the outer diameter of pipe), then do welding work to connect them together. Therefore, the actual diameter of SW elbow end is greater than the elbow diameter. Threaded Elbow The shape of threaded elbow is similar to the SW elbow, except that the inner surface of the trapezoidal area has been machined into thread. It is easier to install and remove, good for pipeline repair and maintenance. Types of Elbows based on Material of Construction Stainless Steel Elbow : ASTM A403 WP Gr. 304, 304H, 309, 310, 316, 316L, 317L, 321, 347, 904L Carbon Steel Elbow : ASTM A 234 WPB , WPBW, WPHY 42, WPHY 46, WPHY 52, WPH 60, WPHY 65 & WPHY 70. Low Temperature Carbon Steel Elbow : ASTM A420 WPL3, A420 WPL6 Alloy Steel Elbow : ASTM / ASME A/SA 234 Gr. WP 1, WP 5, WP 9, WP 11, WP 12, WP 22, WP 91 Duplex Steel Elbow : ASTM A 815, ASME SA 815 UNS NO S31803, S32205. Werkstoff No. 1.4462 Nickel Alloy Elbow : ASTM / ASME SB 336 UNS 2200 ( NICKEL 200 ), UNS 2201 (NICKEL 201 ), UNS 4400 (MONEL 400 ), UNS 8020 ( ALLOY 20 / 20 CB 3, UNS 8825 INCONEL (825), UNS 6600 (INCONEL 600 ), UNS 6601 ( INCONEL 601 ), UNS 6625 (INCONEL 625), UNS 10276 ( HASTELLOY C 276 ) Some Other Types of Elbows In addition to the above defined elbows there are few more types of elbows which are not used on regular basis. Few of them has been defined below. Reducing Elbow A reducing elbow is a type of fitting which is used to join two pipes of different sizes. The reducing elbow is so called because it looks like a reducing piece and elbow combined into one. The reducing elbow eliminates one pipe fitting (reducer) and reduces the welding by more than one-third. Also, the gradual reduction in diameter throughout the arc of the reducing elbow provides lower resistance to flow and reduces the effect of stream turbulence and potential internal erosion. These features prevent sizable pressure drops in the line. For many suppliers it is a non standard item resulting into high price with a long delivery time. The use of a [normal" elbow with a separate reducer is an option if the situation allows. Male Pipe Elbows & Female Pipe Elbows Male pipe elbows and female pipe elbows are popular tube fittings which provide an fluid flow directional change of a tubing run. While a male pipe elbow is used to connect fractional tube to female tapered pipe thread, a female elbow is used to connect fractional tube to male NPT thread. These types of tube fittings like male elbows and female elbows have been specifically designed for use on instrumentation, process and control systems and equipment employed in chemical, petroleum, fluid power, electronic and pulp and paper plants. Wall Thickness of Elbows The weakest point on an elbow is the inside radius. ASME B16.9 only standardizes the center to face dimensions and some [squareness" dimensional tolerances. The wall thickness at the weld line location even is standardized, but not through the rest of an elbow. The standard states that the minimum tolerance will be within 12.5% of the minimum ordered wall thickness of the pipe. A maximum tolerance is specified only at the ends of the fitting. Many providers of butt weld elbows provide one schedule greater thickness so that sufficient wall thickness, after forming, remains.

  • Socket Weld Flanges:A Popular Type of Flange
Socket Welding Flanges Socket Welding Flange, a popular type of pipe flange, was initially developed for use on small-sized high- pressure piping. The fabrication of this type of flange is similar to that of a Slip On Flange. However, the internal pocket of a socket welding flange allows for a smooth bore and better fluid flow. When provided with an internal weld, the static strength of this flange is equal to slip-on flange, but the fatigue strength is 50% greater than double welding slip-on flanges. In our company, Steel Flange can be supplied, including carbon steel and stainless steel Socket Welding Flanges. Smooth bore conditions in such a flange can easily be attained without having to bevel the flange face and, after welding, to reface the socket weld flange as would be required with slip-on flanges. For this reason, the internally welded flange is popular in chemical process piping. Materials used: Alloy steel Carbon steel Stainless steel Cast iron Rubber PVC Thermoplastics Aluminum Brass Bronze etc. Key Features: The recess on the inside diameter of the socket weld flange allows for a good fit of the pipe allowing for a smooth flow of liquid. Socket welding flanges work well for smaller sizes and higher pressure temperature conditions. They are similar to slip-on flanges, but must specify the schedule of the pipe where they will be used for with socket welds. Uses of socket weld flanges: They are ideal for small diameter applications. They are used for high pressure applications. Socket weld flanges have an internal recess on the inside diameter which allow for a smoot flow of the process fluid. They create a smooth bore with the proper welding and grinding.

  • YPCO Product Introduction:Steel Pipe Fittings
Steel Pipe Fittings Steel has been used for making pipe and pipe fittings since years for its durability and strength. Moreover, steel offers high resistance to heat. This property also adds to the popularity of steel for making pipes and pipe fittings. Steel pipes and pipe fittings are widely used in houses and industrial purposes for carrying water, flammable gases, fire sprinkler systems, etc. As steel pipes tend to rust, they are often mixed with other materials to add to its durability and make it rust resistant. Varieties of Steel: Pipe fittings are made of various types of steel like: Galvanized Steel: In order to protect steel from rust and corrosion, steel is coated in layers of zinc through a chemical process. Galvanized steel offers resistance to rust and corrosion and is highly preferred for making pipe fittings and pipe. Galvanized steel also increase the longevity of pipe fittings. Fittings made of galvanized steel are available in standard sizes ranging from 8mm to 150mm. Galvanized pipe fittings are usually manufactured from seamless tube, forgings or rolled bar or welded tube following some specific standards. Galvanized steel pipe fittings are for all types of piping inside a building. They are also used in water supply lines, but not in gas pipelines. Carbon Steel: Carbon steel is much more durable and stronger than other varieties of steel, which makes it suitable for making pipe fittings. Also known as plain carbon steel, carbon steel is a malleable and iron-based metal, containing mainly carbon and small amounts of manganese and other elements. Steel is subjected to various processes and can either be cast to shape or wrought into various mill forms from which finished parts are formed, forged, stamped, machined or otherwise shaped. Carbon is the main hardening and strengthening element present in steel, which offers maximum hardness and strength; and decreased ductility and weld-ability. Carbon steel pipe fittings come in various sizes and shapes. Again there are some butt-weld carbon fittings, which feature beveled edges and form a channel of lesser depth for the bead of weld that fixes the piece together. Butt-weld fittings are mainly used to join sections of pipe where permanent and welded connections are required. Elbows, reducers, tees, etc are made of butt-weld steel fittings. Application of Carbon steel fittings: Fittings made of carbon steel are used in pipe pipe systems that carry liquids or gases, such as oil, water, natural gas, or steam. Apart from that, carbon steel fittings are highly demanded in construction and maintenance activity in the residential construction, commercial construction, electric-power generation, petroleum refining, shipbuilding and other industrial-use sectors. Stainless steel: Stainless steel is widely used for making pipe fittings because of the fact that it is highly resistant to oxidation and corrosion in various natural and man-made environments. Stainless steel is actually a ferrous alloy containing minimum 10% chromium. Selection of right grade of stainless steel for a particular application is really important. A range of pipe fittings like tees, unions, elbows, etc are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel fittings are usually used for household pipelines. • YPCO Product Introduction:Pipe Flanges
Pipe Flanges Pipe Flanges are widely used as a popular category of pipe fittings. A flange is used to mechanically connect two pipes together. It can also be used to mechanically connect a pipe to a tee, valve, choke or any other piece of equipment. Flanges are available in round, square, and rectangular shapes. In some cases, flanges are usually in the shape of a ring or a plate to form a rim at the end of a pipe when fastened to the pipe. This is an example of closet flange. A flange can also be a plate for covering or closing the end of a pipe. This is a blind flange. Thus, flanges are considered to be projecting or internal components which are used to support mechanical parts. They are like rims which are used to strengthen the mechanical part or they are a means of attaching that part to another part or surface Flange connection is to fix two pipes, pipe fittings or equipment on a flange respectively, add flange gasket between the two flanges, and fasten them together with bolts to complete the connection. Some pipe fittings and equipment have their own flanges, which also belong to flange connection. Flange connection is an important connection mode in pipeline construction. Flange connection is easy to use and can bear large pressure. Flange connection is widely used in industrial pipelines. In the family, the pipe diameter is small, and it is low-pressure, so the flange connection can not be seen. If you are in a boiler room or production site, there are flanged pipes and equipment everywhere. According to the connection mode, the types of flange connection can be divided into: plate flat welding flange, flat welding flange with neck, butt welding flange with neck, socket welding flange, threaded flange, flange cover, loose flange with neck butt welding ring, loose flange with flat welding ring, ring groove surface flange and flange cover, large-diameter flat flange, large-diameter high neck flange, spectacle blind plate, loose flange with butt welding ring, etc.

  • YPCO Standards Introduction: ASME standards (U.S.)
Pipe flanges that are made to standards called out byASME B16.5 or ASME B16.47, and MSS SP-44. They are typically made from forged materials and have machined surfaces. ASME B16.5 refers to nominal pipe sizes (NPS) from 1⁄2" to 24". B16.47 covers NPSs from 26" to 60". Each specification further delineates flanges into pressure classes: 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500 and 2500 for B16.5, and B16.47 delineates its flanges into pressure classes 75, 150, 300, 400, 600, 900. However these classes do not correspond to maximum pressures in psi. Instead, the maximum pressure depends on the material of the flange and the temperature. For example, the maximum pressure for a Class 150 flange is 285 psi, and for a Class 300 flange it is 740 psi (both are for ASTM a105 carbon steel and temperatures below 100°F). The gasket type and bolt type are generally specified by the standard(s); however, sometimes the standards refer to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (B&PVC) for details (see ASME Code Section VIII Division 1 – Appendix 2). These flanges are recognized by ASME Pipe Codes such as ASME B31.1 Power Piping, and ASME B31.3 Process Piping. Materials for flanges are usually under ASME designation: SA-105 (Specification for Carbon Steel Forgings for Piping Applications), SA-266 (Specification for Carbon Steel Forgings for Pressure Vessel Components), or SA-182 (Specification for Forged or Rolled Alloy-Steel Pipe Flanges, Forged Fittings, and Valves and Parts for High-Temperature Service). In addition, there are many "industry standard" flanges that in some circumstance may be used on ASME work. The product range includes SORF, SOFF, BLRF, BLFF, WNRF (XS, XXS, STD and Schedule 20, 40, 80), WNFF (XS, XXS, STD and Schedule 20, 40, 80), SWRF (XS and STD), SWFF (XS and STD), Threaded RF, Threaded FF and LJ, with sizes from 1/2" to 16". The bolting material used for flange connection is stud bolts mated with two nut (washer when required). • Features of WN Flange and SO Flange
Neck butt welding flange refers to a kind of flange with a cone neck and butt welding with the cylinder or pipe, which belongs to the integrated flange. Slip on pipe flanges are typically provided with a raised or flat face. When a raised face is necessary for slip on pipe flanges, the standard height is 1/16" for slip on pipe flanges under 400#. For slip on pipe flanges of 400# and up, the standard slip on pipe flange raised face height is 1/4". The full name of neck flat welded flange is neck flat welded steel pipe flange, which can extend the steel pipe and pipe fittings into the flange and connect with the equipment or pipe through the fillet weld. Weld Neck Flanges are flanges with the wall thickness of the flange having the same dimensions of the matching pipe, the lighter the pipe is, the larger the bore, conversely, the heavier the pipe, the smaller the bore, they are normally used for high pressure, cold or hot temperature. Except this two kinds of flanges, our company also has other flanges, includes Blind Flange, Lap Joint Flange, Threaded Flange, etc. Each kind of falanges are of high quality. Waiting for your inquiry!

  • Steel Flanges used in Butt Welding
Butt welding flange is also called high neck flange, it is different from flat welding flange in that there is a long and inclined high neck from the flange and pipe welding to the flange, the wall thickness of this section of high neck gradually transition to the wall thickness along the height direction, improve the stress discontinuity, thus increasing the strength of the flange. Butt welding flange is mainly used in harsh working conditions, such as pipe thermal expansion or other loads and the flange is subjected to large stress or stress changes repeatedly occasions, pressure, temperature fluctuations of the pipeline or high temperature, high pressure and sub-zero low temperature pipeline. Butt welding flange is not easy to deformation, seal well, widely used, nominal pressure PN1.0MPa~PN25.0MPa. Butt welding flange according to the type of sealing surface can be divided into: plane butt welding flange, protruded face welding flange, concave and convex face welding flange, tenon face welding flange, ring joint face butt welding flange. Youlong Pipe Fitting can supply you with high quality products, including ECC Reducer, Reducing Tee, Equal Tee, Carbon Steel Caps, Slip On Flange, Welding Neck Flange, etc.

  • Flat Welding Flange for Pipe Connection
Flat Welding Flange Flat welding flange, plate flat welding flange, flat flange is a general term, sometimes for convenience is also called flat. It is different from Butt Welding Flange, which includes Welding Neck Flange and Slip On Flange. In chemical industry flange, mechanical flange, Japanese standard flange, German standard flange, American standard flange, Marine flange and other standards have this. In the domestic industry on the general pipeline consumption is the most, the pressure from 0.25MPa to 4.0MPa. Steel Flat welded flange, as the name suggests, is a Steel Flange without a neck. Insert the pipe directly into the flange for welding. In general, the inner diameter of the small-caliber flange is slightly larger than the pipe by 1-1.5mm to leave such a margin, in order to make appropriate adjustments in the installation process. The large flange should be kept more, because the flange is of large caliber, so it is inconvenient to keep it small. The sealing surface of flat welding flange is generally divided into two kinds: one is called FF surface, that is, the full plane flange, so to say, the flange is like a disk, there is a hole in the middle and then play the corresponding bolt hole around, this is called the full plane flange. There is also a sealed step, colloquially, is a flange out of a platform, called the waterline. Two or three waterlines are then drawn on the top by a lathe. This is called a flat flange. This waterline serves as a seal by placing the gasket between two flanges and securing it with bolts.

  • Steel Tee Pipe Fittings in Youlong:Butt Weld Tee and Socket Weld Tee
1.Butt Weld Tee There are many kinds of Steel Tee. It can be devide into Equal Tee and Reducing Tee. Butt weld tee is widely used in petroleum, aerospace pharmacy, chemical industry, metallurgy, electric power, military industry, engineering support and other industrial pipelines. Ends in plain or beveled, connected by butt welding process. It can withstand higher pressure than other types. The size of butt weld tee should be specified in pipe NPS (DN) and thickness in schedule, where the socket weld tee or thread tee thickness should be specified in the pressure level. Butt weld tee is divided into seamless cold-drawn tee and seam welding tee in the production process. 2.Socket Weld Tee Socket weld tee is a kind of high pressure pipe connection fitting. Like the other fittings, it has a trapezoidal area where the pipe can inserted into the tee branch and weld together. It is commonly used in small diameter systems. Socket weld tee is described as NPS and Pressure ratings 3000#, 6000# and 9000#, same as threaded tee.

  • Pipe Flanges Introduction and Information
Piping components can be bolted together between flanges. Flanges are used to connect pipes with each other, to valves, to fittings, and to specialty items such as strainers and pressure vessels. A cover plate can be connected to create a "Blind Flange". Flanges are joined by bolting, and sealing is often completed with the use of gaskets or other methods. Mechanical means to mitigate effects of leaks, like spray guards or specific spray flanges, may be included. Industries where flammable, volatile, toxic or corrosive substances are being processed have greater need of special protection at flanged connections. Flange guards can provide that added level of protection to ensure safety. There are many different flange standards to be found worldwide. To allow easy functionality and interchangeability, these are designed to have standardised dimensions. Common world standards include ASA/ASME (USA), PN/DIN (European), BS10 (British/Australian), and JIS/KS (Japanese/Korean). In the USA, the standard is ASME B16.5 (ANSI stopped publishing B16.5 in 1996). ASME B16.5 covers flanges up to 24 inches size and up to pressure rating of Class 2500. Flanges larger than 24 inches are covered in ASME B16.47. In most cases, standards are interchangeable, as most local standards have been aligned to ISO standards; however, some local standards still differ. For example, an ASME flange will not mate against an ISO flange.[citation needed] Further, many of the flanges in each standard are divided into "pressure classes", allowing flanges to be capable of taking different pressure ratings. Again these are not generally interchangeable (e.g. an ASME 150 will not mate with an ASME 300). These pressure classes also have differing pressure and temperature ratings for different materials. Unique pressure classes for piping can also be developed for a process plant or power generating station; these may be specific to the corporation, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, or the process plant owner. Welding Neck Flange, Slip On Flange and any other type of flanges are supplied in Our Factory.

Integral Flange Steel Flanges are widely used as a popular category of pipe fittings. Different from Slip on Flange and Blind Flange, the integral flange belongs to the flange standard system of the Ministry of Chemical Industry, which is a form of expression of the Ministry of Chemical Industry flange (also known as HG flange). In various domestic standards, simply use IF to indicate the integral flange, is a flange with a cone section neck. The integral flange is the part that connects the pipe to the pipe and is connected to the end of the pipe. There are holes on the whole flange, and the bolts make the two flanges tightly connected. The flanges are gasketed. The whole flange is mainly used in the pipeline with high pressure, which is generally a sudden surface (RF). If it is in the service condition of inflammable, explosive, high and extremely harmful, it can choose the form of sealing surface of convex and concave surface (MFM) and mortising and groove surface (TG) in addition to RF surface.

  • Carbon Steel Reducers in Process Piping
Reducers in Process Piping A reducer is a kind of pipe fitting used in process piping that reduces the pipe size from a larger bore to a smaller bore (inner diameter). A reducer allows for a change in pipe size to meet hydraulic flow requirements of the system, or to adapt to existing piping of a different size. The length of the reduction is usually equal to the average of the larger and smaller pipe diameters. There are two main types of reducer: Concentric reducers Eccentric reducers Reducers are usually concentric but eccentric reducers are used when required to maintain the same top-or bottom-of-pipe level. Concentric Reducer In Concentric Reducer the reduction of the pipe size is achieved by decreasing the diameter of the fitting at a constant rate over a specified length, maintaining symmetry around the fitting. Concentric Reducers are used to join pipe or tube sections of different diameters on the same axis. They provide an in-line conical transition between pressurized pipes of differing diameters. Thus, concentric reducers connect pipes of unequal size but have a common centerline. The same fitting can be used in reverse as an concentric expander. Eccentric Reducer In Eccentric Reducer the reduction of the pipe size is achieved by decreasing the diameter of the fitting at a constant rate over a specified length, maintaining one side of the fitting horizontally. An eccentric pipe reducer fitting is manufactured with the smaller outlet off center to the larger end, which allows it to align with only one side of the inlet. The same fitting can be used in reverse as an eccentric expander. Uses of CON Reducer and ECC Reducer In horizontal liquid piping, eccentric reducer must be installed with flat side up so that it can prevent trapping air in the piping system. As an exception, same is flat side down in piperack where same Bottom of Pipe (BOP) has to be maintained. Other exception is with control valves. A eccentric reducer with flat side down will give a more constant flow through the control valve. YPCO supplies various Steel Reducers, we are waiting for yoour inquiry.

  • Pipe and Flange Fitting Materials
Cast and malleable iron Fittings for cast iron pipe fall under hubless and bell-and-spigot styles. Hubless designs rely on elastomeric couplers that are secured to the outer diameters of the pipe or fitting by clamps, usually a stainless steel band clamp that compresses the elastomeric material and forms a seal. These hubless or no hub designs are sometimes referred to as rubber pipe couplings or rubber plumbing couplings and are especially popular for transitioning from one material to another-from copper to cast iron, for instance. Bell-and-spigot, or sometimes, hub-and-spigot, fittings are joined today primarily with elastomeric gaskets that fit inside the bell and accommodate the insertion of the plain pipe end or fitting. Older systems before the 1950s were caulked using a combination of molten lead and a fibrous material such as oakum. Cast iron pipe is sometimes joined with bolted flanges, or in some cases, mechanical compression connections. Flanged joints employed in underground applications can subject the pipe to settlement stresses unless the pipe is adequately supported. Steel and steel alloys Steel pipe fittings are often extruded or drawn over a mandrel from welded or seamless pipe. In smaller sizes they are often threaded to match threads on the ends of pipe. As sizes and pressures increase, they are often welded in place by either butt-weld or socket-weld methods. Socket-weld fittings, usually forged, are restricted to smaller pipe diameters (up to NPS 4, but usually NPS 2 or smaller) and are available in 3000.6000, and 9000 class pressure ratings, corresponding to Schedule 40, 80, and 160 pipe. Socket fittings are welded into place with fillet welds, which makes them weaker than butt- welded fittings, but still preferable to threaded fittings for high-end work. The need for an expansion gap in the fitting precludes their use in high-pressure food applications. Flanges are also used, with the resulting flanged sections of pipe connected via bolts. The use of flanges makes breaking the pipeline feasible so as to enable replacement of valves, etc. Most pipeline equipment such as pumps and compressors are also connected via flanges for this same reason. Steel Flange fittings are available in a handful of styles, rated by pressure and temperature. These styles include lapped, weld neck, socket weld, ring-type joint, screwed, and slip-on. The threaded flange is suitable only for low- to medium-pressure applications. The other various welded-on flanges permit higher pressures to be used. Lapped flanges are often used where disconnections will be frequent as the flange can spin freely, simplifying bolt-hole alignment. A special case is the so-called blind flange, which is used to seal the end of a pipeline but allow connection to another pipe or piece of equipment later. Flanges can incorporate several different methods to seal adjoining faces, including O-rings, seal rings, and gaskets. Seal rings provide an especially tight joint and for the same bolt stress applied to a flat-face gasket, can resist a higher pressure. Primarily, three standards govern pipe flanges. ASME 16.5 defines the ANSI flange, the most commonly-used flange. ASME B16.47 covers two series, A and B, which represent large diameter applications. Series A flanges are heavier and thicker than Series B for the same pressure and size. Series B flanges are normally selected for refurbishment work. ASME B16.1 defines the AWWS flange, but it is only for flanges used in potable-water service at atmospheric temperatures. Then, there is the so-called Industry Standard flange which is not defined by a governing body but instead reflects historical practice. The dimensions for these flanges are covered by ASME B16.1, the standard for 25,125, and 250 class cast-iron-pipe flange and flange fittings. Metal pipes sections may also be joined and built up as pipelines using pipe couplings and other standard threaded pipe fittings such as metal pipe end Steel Cap or 180 Deg Elbow.
